Work Zone Equivalents – 2025

IMSA Ontario recognizes approved Work Zone training programs delivered by trusted industry organizations in place of offering its own course. Participants may meet IMSA Ontario requirements by completing a full-day OTM Book 7 or temporary traffic control program offered by IHSA or the Ontario Traffic Council, available in both in-person and instructor-led virtual formats.

Roadway Lighting Technician Level I

This certification validates foundational knowledge in roadway lighting systems, including wiring, grounding, equipment standards, illumination principles, materials, tools, and electrical safety. Ideal for professionals installing and maintaining roadway lighting infrastructure, this program ensures competency in modern lighting operation and maintenance. Prerequisites include a current IMSA or approved Work Zone certification and at least one year of roadway lighting experience.

Traffic Signal Field Technician Level I

This certification establishes core competency in traffic signal systems, covering terminology, cabinet wiring, components, vehicle detection, communications, installation fundamentals, and maintenance practices. Designed for entry-level technicians with foundational electrical or technical skills, it prepares participants to work safely and effectively on signal construction and maintenance teams. Prerequisites include one year of traffic signal experience and current IMSA or approved Work Zone certification.

Traffic Signal Field Technician Level II

This advanced certification confirms comprehensive knowledge and practical experience in traffic signal systems, including installation, programming, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and equipment testing. Technicians demonstrate proficiency in signal phasing, timing, detection systems, documentation, and asset management, preparing them to support complex signalized intersection operations. Prerequisites include current IMSA Traffic Signal Technician I certification and at least two years of traffic operations experience.
